Changes in Hyderabad, in this decade

Food

Hyderabad is famous for its Irani Cafes and Irani Chai. Mirchi, Samosa, Osmania Biscuit are the snacks ordered with Chai. Students sit for hours in Cafes and will have chit-chat on Girls, Lecturers, Gang-wars etc.,. Now, though Irani Cafes are still popular, the menu in them are  going Andhra Style. Poonugulu, Mysore Bonda, Masala Vada are the new items introduced as snacks even in Irani Cafes of Old City. Students are now getting habituated to Coffee Days, KFCs etc.,as there is increase in Girl-Boy friendships and increase in pocket money.

Movies

A decade ago, the centre of Telugu Cinema used to be RTC x Roads. Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh were the crowd-pullers. Hindi Cinema used to have considerable market along with Telugu Cinema. Now, the focus is shifted to Multiplexes. The centre of Telugu Cinema has shifted to Prasadz from RTC x Roads. Mahesh Babu, Jr.NTR, Allu Arjun are the new crowd-pullers. Hindi Cinema has lost its sheen while Telugu Cinema market has shown considerable growth with increase in population in centres like Dilsukhnagar, Kukatpally, Miyapur, L.B.Nagar, Chandanagar etc.,

Shopping

Abids and Koti were the primary markets for shopping a decade ago. Now, every corner of the city has grown into a major commercial centre. Dilsukhnagar in east, KPHB in West have grown into major commercial centres.

Language

A decade ago, when you go for shopping in Abids or Koti, the primary language used to be Deccani/Hindi. With increase in migration to the city from all the parts of the state, it won’t be surprising if you hear Srikakulam accent in Koti Sultan Bazar area. Usage of Telugu is increasing in the areas like Ram Koti, King Koti, Chappal Road, Jagdish Market and surrounding areas. And usage of Hindi is increasing in the areas like KPHB, Miyapur with the increase in migration of people from other states to these areas.

Popular by being anti-popular

There are two ways to achieve popularity. One by being popular and another by being anti-popular. Anti-popular is the syndrome with which people think themselves superior than the famous persons and thereby demean the famous persons. This Anti-popular syndrome can be born out from jealous towards the other person’s success.

Recently, an unknown singer from Telangana has commented that S P Balasubramanyam has sung the song ‘Vedam la goshinche godavari…’ with Barre Gonthu (with sound like that of Buffalo). When I heard of this comment, immediately I enquired about his name. He is some singer called Deshapati Srinivas.

This unknown singer for me is now known singer. He has achieved some kind of popularity by being Anti-Popular. By the way, why did he commented SPB? Is that out of jealous and hate, and showing the hate under the guise of Telangana sentiment?

A Hell called Supermarket

These days shopping at supermarkets is nothing but like straightly getting into hell. Big queues, untrained billing operators make your life miserable. If you pick-up an item and go to billing counter, you will see a small queue which never ceases to move. The person at billing counter scans the barcode which the barcode reader never reads. Then the person tries to type it on the monitor. Adding to the misery of the people in queue, the system doesn’t recognizes the barcode. Now, the operator asks the co-operator in another counter for the barcode. The other one answers after much ‘thinking’. This spate of barcode reading blunders continues and after that, operators asks for the amount. The customer now takes his Sodexo Food Coupons and slowly counts the coupons to tally the amount. By the time the customer gets the count and amount correctly, half of the patience gets lost for the people in queue.

When customers choose to pay by the Card, the swiping machine never connects to the server. Then customer flashes another card. After many attempts, it connects to the server and the transaction succeeds. After receiving the transaction slip, now, operator searches for the pen. He goes here and there in search of pen, sometimes getting into small arguments with co-operators.

And now, customer gets into small fight with operator for wrong billing or for the free gift which is advertised in newspapers. By the time your turn comes, you get to know that your valuable time is lost in buying a small item in Supermarket.

Death of Congress!

It is the death of Congress in AP. After the Jagan’s exit from the party, Congress will lose some of its traditional votebank to Jagan. No, this doesn’t mean that Jagan is going to be reckoning political force in AP. In the general elections of last year May, Congress could gain only a marginal 1% lead over opposition. That mean, it is just 28 lakh votes gain over opposition. With Jagan’s exit, a considerable vote bank would shift towards from Congress. This is going to benefit the TDP and loss to both Congress and Jagan.
